The build, stage by stage

Every build, whatever it is made of, moves through the same seven stages. Each has a first-draft page below, with a Kits and minis section and a Brick builds section.

  1. 01

    Plan and sort

    Kits and minis: Read instructions, test fit, plan subassemblies. Brick builds: Sort bricks, check inventory, bag order.

  2. 02

    Prep

    Kits and minis: Clip, clean mould lines, wash resin. Brick builds: Check for missing or damaged parts, part substitutes.

  3. 03

    Build

    Kits and minis: Glue, fill seams, pin. Brick builds: Step building, sturdy techniques, avoiding stress on parts.

  4. 04

    Finish

    Kits and minis: Prime, paint, decals. Brick builds: Stickers vs printed parts, lighting kits, optional custom paint.

  5. 05

    Weather and detail

    Kits and minis: Washes, chipping, pigments. Brick builds: Greebling, MOC detail, minifig posing.

  6. 06

    Base and display

    Kits and minis: Basing, plinths. Brick builds: Display stands, dust covers, shelf and wall mounting.

    Care, mod and rebuild

    Kits and minis: Storage, transport, repairs. Brick builds: MOCs, alternate builds, storage, selling on.
