Build Types
Miniatures and wargaming
Warhammer, historical figures and board game miniatures, usually built for painting and play.
What you need
- Side cutters and a hobby knife for flash and mould lines
- Superglue (CA) for most resin or metal, plastic cement for multi-part plastic kits
- A wet palette for painting sessions
- A primer suited to your model’s material
First project
A small starter set of 5 to 10 single-pose plastic figures, so you can practise assembly and a simple paint scheme before a full army or warband.
Common mistakes
- Painting fine detail before the model is fully assembled and the glue has cured
- Skipping a primer coat
- Overloading a brush with paint and losing detail under thick coats

Painting basics
Seven stages every painting guide on this site builds on: priming, base coats, washes, layering, highlighting, basing and varnish. Method and materials follow Army Painter's own technique guides in the sources below; we have not run every step on one model ourselves. Works for plastic kits and miniatures alike.
